The L Word is a television drama series on Showtime that portrays the lives of a group of lesbian and bisexual women and their friends, family and lovers in the trendy Los Angeles-area city of West Hollywood. It contains the story of many like Jenny Schecter is a gifted young fiction writer who has just graduated from the University of Chicago. With a major literary award and one published short story to her credit, she arrives in Los Angeles to begin her "adult life" with her boyfriend, Tim Haspel, an anthropology student. The show was created and is executively produced by Ilene Chaiken (Barb Wire, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air).
