The series follows the detectives of the Special Victims Unit in a fictional version of the 16th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. This elite squad of detectives investigates sexually based offenses. Sometimes the vicitim is murdered but often the vicitims play an important role. The stories of the series are based on real crime and fictionalized it by changing the details.
